During the many years that Harel Stanton has traveled and worked around the world, he has developed unique ways of bringing Israel, beyond the politics and conflicts, to his audiences.
He gives presentations at universities, community centers, synagogues, churches, and schools and works with groups visiting Israel, enabling them to learn about and experience Israel through the use of the camera.
Harel’s shows are suitable for all age groups – children and adults, and for audiences up to 500 people.
Below is a list of different programs that are available.
1. The 1000 Faces of Israel - A Photographic Journey
An artistic cultural presentation of daily life in Israel
Harel combines his art-work with beautiful music, creating a multi-sensory experience that touches the heart and feeds the intellect, bringing Israel as close as possible to the audience. His narrative, which accompanies the presentation opens the door for an in depth discussion of the many layers that comprise the Israeli reality.
The presentation is given from the standpoint of an artist - photographer born and raised in Israel.
A display of Harel’s photos serves as the trigger for an engaging workshop which explores participant's perceptions of Israel, Judaism, art as a reflection of reality and the multiple meanings of the place called Israel. In small groups and full forum, participants are asked to choose photographs and unpack the messages they find in the photographs.
This activity encourages people to engage directly with the photos and Israel, allowing the viewer to bring his/her personal experiences, biases and emotions into the process of understanding art.
3. Workshop for Families
This program combines Harel’s multi-media presentation with a hands-on activity for children and families. After the presentation participants are given a small photo album, stickers, magic markers and a large selection of Harel’s photos (printed to fit the size of the album). Families create their own “Israel Book” and record their thoughts about the photos they have chosen to include in the album. This activity is a creative and personal way for parents and children to share their thoughts and feelings about Israel. For families who are new to Israel, it is an opportunity to take the first steps towards a meaningful relationship with Israel – land, people and story.
4. Workshop for Teens Returning from an Art workshops on Israel
This workshop offers an excellent opportunity for teens who have been to Israel, to rekindle the "Israel flame". Through the portraits and landscape photos, participants re-connect to their time in Israel, re-live their experiences and strengthen their connection to the land and its people.
The meeting includes a multi-media presentation and an open conversation about the similarities and differences between the cultures, ways of living and being a teenager in Israel or the USA.
An additional optional activity uses the participant's photos and assists them in putting together their own presentations and narratives about their experience.
5. Workshop for Retirees
This workshop for senior citizens includes a multi-media presentation connecting the Israel of the past with the modern country it is today.
The pictures and the music take the audience into a different journey to the Holy land, one which includes memories of events that occurred in their lifetimes. This enables each participant to connect on a deep personal level.
6. Experiencing Israel Through Your Camera
This workshop is intended for people of any age who are traveling in Israel in a group and who want to learn how to take photographs that tell a story rather than just record a visit. Consciously taking photo's pushes the participant to explore Israel and the Israeli's through different eyes and break free from the bubble of being a "tourist".
This is a unique opportunity to get “live” feedback from a professional photographer, and to show the “scene” through his eyes.
Harel is also available to meet and work with the group before their visit to Israel to practice using photography as a meaning making tool.
Individually tailored workshops are also available.
